When I received my free tube of Sensodyne Repair & Protect toothpaste I fully committed myself to find out if it really worked. I have suffered from tooth sensitivity for a very long time and have avoided sweets and cold because of it. I used Sensodyne morning and night for two weeks and discovered it has an equal number of pros and cons. Yes, I was able to enjoy candies and Popsicle again, but it was short lived. About 15 minutes after eating my sweet treats I felt that familiar ache again. One of my favorite things about brushing my teeth is the fresh feeling my mouth gets afterward. I felt that Sensodyne was lacking in that crisp feeling. I would still use Sensodyne again because it is the only product I have used that gave me even a little relief and although my mouth wasnt tingling with mint, my breath was still fresh. See more

I know about novamin (the main ingredient in this toothpaste) and know what it can do to the teeth but for some odd reason Sensodyne decided to put too little of it (~5%) which is not enough for it to have any real effect on your teeth. Normally one needs at least 9% before novamin can be of any use. For those who dont know, although you may think fluoride is what helps your teeth it isnt the only material that is needed for the process of remineralization to occur. There must be ample supply of calcium and phosphate in the saliva. Novamin does a clever thing by not only supplying those needed two but also raises your saliva pH at a high enough level t o start the rejuvenation process. Fluroide when added to the mix is used in place of a thing called hydroxl which makes your teeth stronger. The problem with adding fluoride with novamin is that the calcium and fluroide tend to interact making the use of it in your mouth less effective which was nice that this paste understood this and did not do the no no by providing sodium fluroide but the more stable sodium monoflurophosphate so that novamin and fluroide could co-exist in the tube. Youd be surprised how many shops dont know this. So my key complaint about this paste is that the lack of novamin (above 9%) in each tube. If it increases this amount this would get a 5 star highest rating. But because it is only 5% i cant in good concious recommend it. See more
