Wonderfully detailed history of the "Princess Coronation" Pacifics, the mightiest express steam locomotives to run in Great Britain. They began in the streamlined 1930s, shimmering in blue and silver, red and gold. Later, clothed in muted wartime black, they distinguished themselves with vast feats of haulage during World War II. The last two, built in 1947-48, provided a template for many of the features of the new British Railway Standards. This book includes an outstanding collection of black and white photos, most previously unpublished, as well as the Record Card histories transcribed and tabulated. 100 pages.
